Book review - The Cold Millions by Jess Walter

I read Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter a few years ago, and knew I wanted to read more by this author. The Cold Millions is one of the most educational and entertaining works of historical fiction I have ever read. I recently read The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles, and found The Cold Millions similar in style and equally brilliant. The Cold Millions immersed me in the the labor wars in the western United States in the early 20th century. I learned much about a chapter in U.S. history I previously knew little about. The themes of the book, about the cruel gap between the wealthy and the poor, and the efforts of the wealthy to prevent the possibility of a middle class, resonates with the headlines in the news today.
